How safe are the city’s Public schools? |

New York— Recently the City Hall witnessed a rally involving students, parents and activists, held in support of the Student Safety Act, which is still hanging fire. This legislation is expected to bring greater transparency in the functioning of the department of education and NYPD. The proposed law stipulates quarterly reporting on any incidents involving the arrest, expulsion or suspension of students apart from the race, sex and disability status of the students. Though the Bloomberg administration claims that NYPD’s surveillance mechanism has resulted in substantial reduction of crime rates in the city schools, there are complaints of alleged high handedness of the police.
