Hate crime graph shoots up in Calgary

Calgary has been witnessing regular incidents of anti-Semitic graffiti and hate crimes. Racist messages and swastikas were seen painted in many locations including the walls of Sundance Elementary School and several Jewish properties, including synagogues and a Holocaust memorial. However, investigators feel that it is not just a case of vandalism but something more complex because in both the cases, damage to synagogues, was involved according to Const. Brian Denison.  Meanwhile, the police have released surveillance camera images that depict a man under suspicious conditions in front of the Chabad Lubavitch centre in the Woodbine neighborhood. If convicted the vandals would get 10 years prison term for vandalizing the Jewish properties.

School Funds to enhance School Safety features

Denver, CO: It has been decided that the School Safety Partners will provide 10-25% matching grants and financial consulting to make the schools safer. The newly devised School Safety Fund can be used to improve the overall safety aspects of the school including prevention and preparedness. This city based volunteer group has tied up with the leading tax-credit bond firm and investment bankers of McLiney And Company, specializing in school funding. The funds if utilized properly would ensure a sea change in the safety parameters of schools all over the US.

Juvenile vandalism on the rise

Salem: In yet another shocking instance of juvenile vandalism, three students were caught for vandalizing a Salem apartment complex, and pointing a shot gun at the complainant. The incident took place at an apartment complex in the 3100 block of 7th Place NE, according to Salem Police Lt. Dave Okada. When the complainant tried to face up the students, one of them pulled out a handgun. The police acted on the tip off quickly and rounded off all three suspects from a house in Shangri-La Ave, where they were hiding. A stolen .45 semi-automatic handgun was also recovered from the house. Investigation is progressing.

Girad school at the receiving end of Juvenile vandalism

A Girad School remained closed for two days due to the bomb threats and vandalism carried out allegedly by three high school students. The students who were not identified will be served a 10 day suspension before an expulsion hearing on Dec 2nd before the school board. Windows and glass doors were smashed and bomb threats were spray painted on the walls. A Girard police spokesman said that charges are being framed through the Macoupin County state’s attorney’s office even though none has been arrested so far. The vandals would be slapped with many charges including a felony charge for causing deliberate damage to state-supported property.

Southwell – groping with the menace of graffiti

Southwell has of late been witnessing growing instances of vandalism. This issue was taken up by the town’s Safer Neighbourhood Group chairman Mr. Peter Harris, who opined that War Memorial Recreation Ground and the area around the former Church Street site of the Minster School had to bear the brunt of graffiti the most. The community expressed its concerns on the growing instances of graffiti on private buildings. Cleaning- up operations are not just costly but also could be damaging to the brick structure of the old buildings in the locality as many a time strong chemicals and metal brushes are involved in the cleaning up operations.

A corner store doubles up as a community nuisance

This nondescript corner store of EZ market might not grab your attention had it not been for the milling crowd of noisy loiterers around this spot. The local community wants nothing short of closing down the store while the store owner says it is a law and order issue; while the Police say that the owner needs to keep a tab on the happenings outside the business. As the blame game continues, the hapless residents of the College Hill are forced to put up with thefts, crimes and burglaries. The absence of any loitering laws in Cincinnati, makes it even more difficult to curb this nuisance.
